A MALE and female, who were arrested in connection with an armed robbery at Ulster Bank on the Quay, on Friday afternoon, are to remain in custody until this evening.

A man entered the bank at 1.30pm and produced what’s believed to be a firearm. He threatened staff, before making his escape on foot with a sum of cash. He fled in the direction of Exchange Street.

The man and woman, both of whom are from the locality, were arrested on Saturday evening following a definite line of enquiry.

The two aged 36 and 31 are being held at Waterford Garda Station until this evening when they will either be charged or released.
