Entries for Waterford Half Marathon on Saturday December 5th close on this Friday. It will be a big weekend in Waterford athletics circles with the Half Marathon in the city on Saturday morning and the All Ireland Cross Coutry fixture in Abbeyside on the Sunday December 6th.
All Ireland Cross Country
The first GloHealth All Ireland Cross Country Championships of the season take place on Sunday morning next at Santry Demesne in Dublin.
On the programme are the Championships for boys and girls under 12, 14, 16 and 18 as well as the Inter Club senior championships,
Waterford will be represented at the fixture with individual competitors as well as teams and we wish all well. In the senior men’s
Ferrybank AC have a team entered led by Shane Quinn the other members are Andrew Connick, Brian Gallagher and Louis O’Carroll. the Winter
League in the city continues this Thursday at 7 pm from the RSC, come early and please clear reflective clothing.

At the British and Irish Masters Cross Country in Dublin on Saturday last Mary B Ryan Jennings Waterford was on the Irish over 60 team that won the silver medals.
Awards
The GloHealth National Athletics Awards on Wednesday 25th of November in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry promises to be another engaging afternoon celebrating the many successes of Irish athletics from the past year. The event crowns the many successes of our leading athletes but also recognises the work of the core volunteer base and club system which is the bedrock of the association. Mark English (UCD AC) was named as the Athlete of the Year last year for his bronze medal over 800m at the European championships in Zurich in 2014. The UCD athlete will be in contention once more for his silver medal over 800m at the European Indoors in Prague but will face stiff competition from Thomas Barr (Ferrybank) who won the World University Games 400m hurdles title in South Korea and Robert Heffernan who finished fifth at the World Athletics Championships in Beijing. Two-time world indoor champion Frank O’Mara from Limerick is to be honoured with the Hall of Fame award at the Awards, he was an outstanding middle distance runner
