FEARS of Lisduggan residents that a semi-derelict house used as a drink and drug den will be burnt to the ground were well founded as the property was gutted by fire last night.

On Sunday night at 10.50pm three units of Waterford fire department attended a small fire started in the hallway of the vacant house in Central Avenue, causing smoke damage to a neighbour’s property. A Garda presence was kept in the estate until the following morning.

The latest fire was reported last night at 9.40pm. The fire destroyed the vacant property and caused further smoke damage to the adjoining houses. It is thought elderly residents had to be treated with oxygen, but there are no reports of serious injury.
