THE two-year-old girl, who died after being hit by an articulated truck on Manor Street yesterday morning, has been named as Daenerys Crosbie.
The incident occurred shortly after 10am when 30-year-old Carol Anne Crosbie was pushing her daughter in a buggy across the street to a crèche at Waterford Women’s Centre.
Daenerys, who lived with her mum in Dunmore East, was struck by the Green Volvo FH12 articulated truck travelling in the direction of the Cork Road . She received serious injuries.
Gardaí from Waterford and Ferrybank and the emergency services were dispatched to the scene.
The two-year-old and her mother were taken to University Hospital Waterford.
Sadly, Daenerys was pronounced dead at the Accident and Emergency Department. Her mother Carol Anne received minor injuries.
Manor St. was immediately closed to traffic at the junctions with Bath St./College St. to the west and at Railway Square and John St. to the east of the scene. These streets remained closed until 2pm when an examination of the scene was completed.
A number of witnesses were identified, but Gardaí are still seeking other witnesses who walked cycled or drove by the incident around this time.
The truck was removed from the scene and PSV inspector has carried out examinations of it. The driver of the vehicle was brought to Waterford Garda Station and assisted with enquiries. Gardaí say he was very shaken after incident.
