A COUNTY Waterford GP has raised concerns over the long waiting times experiences by patients, with one of his patients waiting two years for a procedure he deemed to be urgent.
Speaking exclusively to the Waterford News & Star Dr Janes of Fourmilewater Health Centre, Fourmilewater, Ballymacarbry believes he has no choice but to speak out about the serious nature of problems experienced in the health service and Waterford Regional Hospital (WRH).
He has raised concerns for patient safety after a very sick patient of his was sent home from hospital only to be re-admitted through the Emergency Department days later, an incident in which a women with a fractured hip had to wait days for surgery and another incident in which a women was told an ambulance would take as long as 90 minutes to reach her.
Dr Janes, who is the only GP for a radius of 200sq miles surrounding the rural Co Waterford village, said in 25 years he has not witnessed the level of problems with the health service as he has now.
