WELL wishers and the family of Waterford Rose Lorna Ferncombe will be crossing their fingers in the hopes that the Dungarvan native will be crowned as the Rose of Tralee on Tuesday night.

Lorna along with the other 31 roses, who will represent their various Irish and International Centres, will have the task of impressing the judges with their personalities and extensive range of talents in a bid to take the coveted crown.

Here is hoping that Lorna will join the two other Waterford Roses, Orla Burke in 1977 and Breda Hyland in 1983, and be crowned the winning rose.

works part-time as a sales assistant in New Look in Dungarvan and has volunteered with the Special Olympics, Sue Rider Foundation and her local youth club, and completed a charity cycle to Belarus.

Lorna said she has had many different life experiences, but the most unusual have to be a housekeeper to six priests and working in the largest sheep abattoir in Australia.

Good luck to Lorna from all at staff at the Waterford News & Star.
